Phonics

Subject Lead for Phonics and Early Reading: Mrs. A. Buckley

The vision at St. Wilfrid’s is that all children are able, confident and fluent readers who are developed culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. That all children can read confidently and fluently an age appropriate book and be able to answer a range of questions accurately.

We use Bug Club to aid our teaching of phonics. By the end of year 1 all children have learnt and can apply all 44 phonemes so they can read confidently and fluently.

We teach Phase 2, 3 and 4 in reception and Phase 5 in Year 1.

Below is the order we teach phonics in.
