Catholic Social Teaching

Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is rooted in Scripture, formed by the wisdom of Church leaders and guides us in living out our faith to build God's Kingdom on earth. To help the children to understand more about CST, we work closely with CAFOD and look at seven principles in detail; looking at how we can work for the good of all. Principles of Catholic Social Teaching:

Dignity of the human person – The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society.

Family and Community - The family, in which the various generations come together and help one another grow wiser and harmonise personal rights with the other requirements of social life, is the foundation of society.

Solidarity and the Common Good - We are one human family whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic and ideological differences. We are our brothers' and sisters’ keepers, wherever they may be.

Rights and responsibilities - The Catholic tradition teaches that human dignity can be protected and a healthy community can be achieved only if human rights are protected and responsibilities are met.

Options for the poor and vulnerable - In a society marred by deepening divisions between rich and poor, our tradition instructs us to put the needs of poor and vulnerable people first.

Stewardship of God’s Creation - We show our respect for the Creator by our stewardship of creation. Care for the earth is a requirement of the Catholic faith.

Dignity of Work - Work is more than a way to make a living; it is a form of continuing participation in God’s creation. If the dignity of work is to be protected, then the basic rights of workers must be respected.
