Subject Leader - Mrs C Lawton
My faith has always been important to me growing up as a child and as an adult. When my 2 children came along, it was a chance to deepen my faith further as I passed my spiritual life on to them. RE has always been a central part of my teaching but when I arrived at St Wilfrid’s I was asked to become the subject leader. Little did I know then that this was actually God calling me to make me a better person and teacher. I feel privileged to be able to guide our children through their spiritual journey with God and to witness their deepening faith through their kind and thoughtful words and actions following our virtues and values and the principles of Catholic Social Teaching.
Through the Diocese curriculum ‘Learning and growing as people of God’, and all the wonderful opportunities that our children are exposed to, they will hold Christ at the centre of everything that they do.
At St Wilfrid’s, we place God at the centre of all that we do. God is the foundation for all that happens in our school and our lives. The task of handing on faith to future generations is a privilege and a responsibility. We aim to bring our children to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, giving them an in-depth knowledge of scripture that they can call upon.
‘Living and Growing as People of God’ is the curriculum strategy for RE in the diocese of Birmingham. This provides a curriculum that utilises children’s intellect, hearts and imagination. It covers a systematic approach to the study of the Catholic faith and makes learning about our faith lively, interactive and relevant. It consists of four strands: The Liturgical Year; Scripture; The Sacraments and Living as Christians. This is supplemented with by work on the Class Saint and other religions. RSE is a developing area that is covered by the ‘Life to the Full’ programme provided by Ten:Ten.
Children at St Wilfrid’s will gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of how their faith can guide, strengthen and support them in their lives. They will know the teachings of the Catholic Church so that they will be able to live their lives to the full as God wants them to developing as global citizens of the future.
