Foreign Languages

French

Subject leader: Mrs Mortimer

I love teaching French and seeing and hearing pupils enthusiastically speaking, reading, writing, singing and playing games in French. I am passionate about children learning a foreign language as it can open a world of possibilities in terms of communicating with people in different countries and can equip pupils to study and work in different countries around the globe.

Vision

At St Wilfrid's it is our vision that languages are for life. The study of a language is seen as an important part of our pupils’ education as languages are part of the cultural richness of our society and the world in which we live and work. Learning French contributes to mutual understanding, a sense of global citizenship and personal fulfilment. Pupils learn to appreciate different countries, cultures, communities and people. The ability to understand and communicate in another language is a lifelong skill for education, employment and leisure in this country and throughout the world.

European Day of Languages

We had a great time celebrating the European Day of Languages on Monday 26th September 2022. We took part in so many fun activities across the school - learning about French culture and different French speaking countries  as well as learning new French vocabulary. We are looking forward to celebrating on Tuesday 26th September 2023!
